What is the commonly used contact type in stamping analysis?
The commonly used contact type for stamping analysis is the FORMING
contact. In this contact, the thickness of the rigid tool is
disregarded, and many stamping specific features are implemented
including the look ahead adaptivity. There are two contacts which
belong to this category. Of the two contacts, the most commonly used
one is *CONTACT_FORMING_ONE_WAY_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE
When the mesh for the master side is finer than the mesh for the
slave side, there will be significant penetration of the blank into the
rigid tools. When this condition exists it is better to use the
following contact type, even though it is more costly.
*CONTACT_FORMING_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE. With this contact, both sides of
the contact will be treated equally.
